Those who have been to Africa know just how much the continent has to offer. There are a myriad of countries, islands, and attractions to choose from, displaying a wide variety of cultural and historical contrasts. Visit with the people, explore the countryside, learn about the wildlife, or relax on the beaches. There’s bound to be something you’ll enjoy in Africa.

10. Chobe

Chobe National Park from the Chobe River - Elephants

Chobe is an incredible place to visit if you’d like to learn about African elephants. It is home to one of the largest and most popular elephant breeding grounds on the continent and affords visitors an opportunity to see elephants in their natural habitats. Go on a guided tour or safari adventure, take a boat ride down the Chobe River, or venture with your guide into the Okavango Delta to check out the wildlife.

9. Kruger National Park

Located in the north-eastern portion of South Africa, Kruger national Park offers visitors another astounding opportunity to explore African wildlife in an atmosphere that has been, for the most part, completely undisturbed by human progress and technology. The park has three main reserves, including Sabi Sand, Kruger Private Concessions, and Timbavati. You can drive yourself through the park, venture on a flying safari, or travel with any other tour group permitted in the park.

8. Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, also known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, is an enormous and captivating waterfall located right on the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Considered one of the natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls is more than a mile long and can be seen in the distance from up to 30 miles away. The best way to visit is through Zambia because there is less political tension and the tickets into the park are usually less expensive.

7. Masai Mara National Park

Two Masai Giraffes from The Masai Mara National Park

Located in Kenya, the Masai Mara National Park is one of the best places to visit if you want to see some of the world’s biggest cats. The park is full of leopards, cheetahs, and lions, all of which love the park because of its grassland atmosphere. If you are traveling alone you can go off-road in the park as long as you’re following an already established trail. Otherwise, you’ll have to hope some of the animals in this sometimes crowded park stay near the main roads instead.

6. Cape Town

Campsbay, Cape Town, South Africa. www.stormc.co.za

Cape Town is the capital of the Western Cape in South Africa and no trip is complete without a visit to its stunning shores. With beaches to one side of your Cape Town hotel and the Tabletop Mountains to the other, the city is a popular attraction amongst tourists and locals alike. There are amusement parks, wine vineyards, and if you are brave you can even go out with a diving tour to see the great white sharks!

5. Zanzibar Beach

Zanzibar is an incredible island set in the Indian Ocean. It is considered part of Tanzania and is located about 35 kilometers off of the coast of Dar-es-Salaam. Technically two islands, Zanzibar has a reputation for having pristine white beaches and for growing some of the freshest and most tasteful fresh spices you’ll ever encounter. Once a slave trading post, you’ll find that Zanzibar’s Stone Town is full of history and intrigue as well.

4. Selinda Reserve

The Selinda Reserve is located in Botswana and is one of the most popular safari reserves amongst experienced travelers. The accommodations in this park are astounding and there is wildlife lurking almost everywhere you turn. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking for an enhanced safari experience.

3. Ngorongoro Crater

Wildebeests in Ngorongoro Crater

Located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area,  Ngorongoro Crater is situated in the Crater Highlands section of Tanzania. More than 25,000 animals call Ngorongoro Crater home, including a large number of black rhinoceros, hippopotamus, zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest. The crater itself was created when a volcano exploded and subsequently collapsed into itself more than 3 million years ago.

2. Quirimbas

O'l log 1

Located in Mozambique, Quirimbas is quickly becoming one of Africa’s most popular secrets. With white sandy beaches, luxurious island accommodations, and stunning crystal clear waters, it’s no surprise that those who do find their way to Quirimbas want to keep it a secret instead of sharing it with their friends. Quirimbas is one of 27 coral islands off the coast of Monzambique, is incredibly secluded, and would make a great romantic vacation destination.

1. Mt. Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro - 19000 feet

Located in Tanzania, on the boarder of Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the most sought after mountain trails amongst climbers. Climbers of all experience levels can find a trail or tour group that will get them to the mountain’s ominous peaks, though you must be in excellent shape to get all the way to the summit at Uhuru Peak. A trek to the top will take anywhere from 5-7 days and can cost up to $5,000.

Ready to take a trek across the African continent? Make sure you plan stops at a few of these destinations along the way. You’ll appreciate all they have to offer.
